Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The Golden Rule. It's simple enough and it works... in most cases.

But sometimes The Golden Rule just isn't enough.

You must communicate with them THE WAY THEY WANT YOU TO!

I know you have word tracks you're supposed to be using. I know you have information you're supposed to be gathering. I know there are things your bosses don't want you to tell them until it's the best time for you to tell them.

But here's the thing:

If they ask you a question and you can't give them an UNAMBIGUOUS ANSWER, they're going to put you in the mental I CAN'T TRUST THIS PERSON CATEGORY. And once you get in there, it's hard to get out.

Answer the question. Increase the trust. Build the relationship.
